UNIGE Visit to the Castle Hill
14 – 23 December 2020 | GENOVA, ITALY
University of Genova, DAD Department
The Dipartimento di Architettura e Design, Università degli Studi di Genova (UNIGE; Italian for Department Architecture and Design, University of Genoa) is located on the old pre-roman Castle Hill (Collina di Castello) in front of the ancient harbour basin.
The DAD Department founded in 1972 has witnessed the numerous transformations from the high-medieval period (San Silvestro monastery) to the present day. The overall plan proposed by Ignazio Gardella and Luciano Grossi Bianchi for this site remained at the pinnacle of Italian architectural debate between 70s-80s. The new western wing which includes workshops and classrooms designed by Gardella perfectly integrates the restoration works of the cloister, the terraced gardens, the frescos, and the arcades completed by Grossi Bianchi. In this context, the DAD Department represent an important creative and cultural hub linked with the most vital and multi-cultural part of the city, close to theatres, artisanal shops, historical ambience that enter the daily life of those who study and work here.
The CFC Itinerant Exhibition will be hosted on 14-23 December 2020 after the online event “FOOD interACTION!” International Festinar held at UNIGE ‘Albergo dei Poveri’. The CFC Itinerant Exhibition in the context of DAD Department represents a perfect occasion for local practitioners, designers and architects to explores the activities carried out in the two-years work programme by profiting to a visit of the Castle Hill and the Sant’Agostino Museum of Sculptures, which enrich the cultural offer of the site.
